Jan joined Sanlam in 1997, as part of the Investment Advisory service of Sanlam Personal Portfolios. From 1999 to 2000 he was at Gensec Asset Management, working as an investment analyst and portfolio manager, and was a member of the asset allocation and strategy team. Jan joined Citadel as an analyst in September 2000. He has since been involved in asset class research, fund manager selection, investment strategy, portfolio management and product development. Jan was appointed CIO in February 2004.

Dave began his career as an Economic Analyst in the office of the Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister in Pretoria. In 1980, he joined Old Mutual's Economic Research Unit as an Economic Analyst. He lectured at Stellenbosch University in 1981 and 1982, and rejoined Old Mutual's Economic Research Unit in 1983. He was appointed Chief Economist of Old Mutual in 1987. Dave received the USB/Beeld “Economist of the year” award in 1992 and 1999. He joined Citadel in May 1998 as Head of Asset Management. Dave is now the Group’s Chief Investment Strategist.

Maarten obtained a Masters degree in Econometrics at the University of Pretoria. He went on to lecture at the University of Pretoria, Stellenbosch University and Monash University. Maarten joined the Bureau for Economic Research in 1998, where he focused on macro-econometric forecasting. He was a portfolio manager at PeregrineQuant from 1999 to 2003. Maarten joined Citadel in October 2003. He is responsible for asset class research, the Citadel asset allocation model and portfolio construction. He also manages the Citadel offshore sterling and euro portfolios. Maarten is passionate about teaching and is a visiting lecturer at Rhodes University.

Yolanda lectured in Economics and Econometrics at the University of Johannesburg before joining Goldfields of South Africa as an economist in 1997. There she researched the South African economy and world metals markets. Yolanda joined Citadel in 1998. As the Head of Global Long-Only Research, she is responsible for all offshore long-only fund manager research, implementation and monitoring. She also manages the US dollar funds and Citadel’s international equity fund-of-funds.

Elmien joined Sanlam in 2000, as part of the Investment Advisory service of Sanlam Personal Portfolios. Here she advised on asset allocation and fund selection for South African clients. Elmien joined Citadel in July 2002. Since then she has been involved in portfolio construction, alternative asset research, fund manager selection and implementation of the CINS houseview. She now heads the hedge fund research initiative and manages the hedge fund-of-fund portfolios. Elmien also oversees the local long-only funds.

Kate was a member of the offshore fund research team at NIB International in London, before joining Citadel in 2000. Kate is an analyst in Citadel’s fund manager research and selection team. Her specific responsibilities are within the offshore manager research, implementation and monitoring process.

Salomi worked at Transnet’s economic department and was responsible for analysis on behalf of the capital market desk. She joined Boland Bank in 1990, where she focused on compiling an economic database and financial market analysis. In 1996, she joined Citadel and was responsible for building an economic database and compiling presentations for planners and managers. Salomi joined the CINS team in 1998. She is now responsible for analysis of and background research into the South African economy, maintenance of various regular documents and for the preparation of presentations given by CINS members.

Mali joined Citadel in 2006 after completing his B.Com Investment Management at RAU. He started at Citadel on an 18-month learnership. After five months, he moved over to the CINS team. He is busy completing his CFA qualification. Mali assists Elmien and Maarten with fund research.

He started his career as a business analyst at an internet marketing company and moved to Citadel in November 2006. Harold was part of the SDI Team where his responsibilities included houseview implementation, actuarial support and product and business solutions development. He joined the CINS Team in February 2010 as an investment analyst. Harold assist Maarten with asset class research, the Citadel asset allocation model and portfolio construction. Harold is also a student member of the Institute of Actuaries.

Sean joined Liberty Asset Management in 1992, where he attained the position of senior portfolio manager. In 1995 he joined Investec Merchant Bank Limited, where he specialised in the design and structuring of financial products for financial institutions. In November 1996, he founded the structured products and derivative solutions business of the Peregrine Group. Sean was appointed CEO of the Peregrine Group in November 1997 and became Chairman of the Peregrine group at the end of 2006.
