Citadel embraces its responsibility towards uplifting the people of our country and making a meaningful contribution to improving the well -being of South Africans. We have selected projects that align with our values and reflect our spirit of caring. Furthermore, our endeavours in the areas of education, youth development and sport are guided by the principles of sustainability and real long term investment.
Our projects include:
Peregrine HouseCitadel and Peregrine partnered with sports agency, Forward Zone, in launching Peregrine House in January 2008. Twelve highly talented young soccer stars from rural areas around the country live together in the house, which was developed in order to nurture their talent and ensure they have the best chance at success. >> Video

Annual Outreach Days
Each office in the Group enjoys an annual outreach day where staff members take the day off work to invest their time and hearts in a community of their choice.
Sandton Outreach day:
Citadel and Peregrine staff from the Sandton office recently spent a heartwarming day with a group of 120 Diepsloot children at the Johannesburg Zoo. The purpose of the day was to allow the children to be real kids for the day; many of them viewed the animals for the first time. Citadel staff had the opportunity to interact, mentor and share in the children's joy of discovery.

Pretoria Outreach day:
In June 2008 the Pretoria office visited two communities, armed with fleecy blankets, bags of groceries, clothing and toys.
Sonheuvel used to be a resort, but the owner decided to open it up to house the less fortunate. Citadel staff members were able to visit people in their homes, which made it possible to interact on a very personal level. Stories were shared, prayer sessions held and a wonderful meal enjoyed together.
The next stop was an after-care school in Shoshanguve called Nkafunagani, where 80 children are being looked after. A joyous afternoon was spent playing soccer, braaing and caring for the kids.

Durban Outreach day:
The Durban office spent the day at John Conradi House, a home for the aged. Of particular necessity for the residents was an area where they could socialise as most spent a large part of the day alone in their rooms.
Staff created a comfortable veranda and garden, decorated and furnished a room to be used as a library and crafts area and stocked it with books and games. Eighteen dilapidated bathrooms were given a fresh coat of paint and new curtains. By the end of the day, the home had transformed into a more bright and cheery place to be.

Claremont Outreach day:
The Claremont office chose to spend a day at Faith’s Educare Centre in Khayelitsha. The centre looks after 40 children between the ages of 3 months and 6 years during the day. Although the children received plenty of love from the care-givers, they had little educational material, bedding and almost no food.
Staff painted walls, fitted lights, re-designed and equipped the kitchen, sleep and educational areas, tidied up the garden and installed a new wooden floor. Each child also received a new school bag, toys and clothes donated by the Claremont staff. A special day, including a delicious potjie lunch, was had by all.

Tyger Valley Outreach day:
The Tyger Valley office partnered with Anna Foundation in their 3 R’s program this year. The 3 R’s program (Reading, Running and Right-ing) is implemented on farms in the Stellenbosch area and focuses on the empowerment of children in rural areas through holistic development of body and mind. Anna Foundation also uses sport as a means to promote health, education and self development.
Citadel staff spent the morning painting, fitting vinyl flooring and planting grass on Hoopenburg, Remhoogte and Bellevue farms. After the hard work everyone gathered at De Meye for an afternoon of spitbraaing and fun. The children were each given a pair of tekkies and a goody bag. In addition, Citadel provided stationery, books and sports equipment.
