The Citadel
Philanthropy Foundation (CPF)

This is the first donor-advised fund of its kind in South Africa. It enables individuals and corporates to donate to the foundation and to make recommendations as to how those funds are invested and distributed. It is effectively a collective foundation (one foundation with many sub-accounts). As a donor you will be able to personalise your account and, if desired, make grants in your account’s name.

The CPF is a good alternative to a private foundation. It offers all the benefits, but with lower associated costs and zero administration.

Donations to the CPF are immediately eligible for tax benefits; the foundation also facilitates all tax incentives and B-BBEE points.

Making a meaningful difference

Since inception, the Citadel Philanthropy Foundation has received more than R50 million and has paid almost R46 million towards deserving beneficiaries.

Two such beneficiaries are the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital Oncology Unit and the Gary and Vivienne Player Foundation’s main project, the Blair Atholl Pre-Primary School. Since 2018, Citadel together with music icon, Ronan Keating, and golfing legend, Gary Player, have hosted an annual gala charity auction dinner to raise funds for these worthy causes. The auction proceeds are managed and distributed by the Citadel Philanthropy Foundation. Over the last six years, more than R9.3 million has been raised.
